From Marketer to Data Scientist: A Personal Journey

  • Hub101 31416 Agoura Rd #105, Westlake Village United States (map)

Transitioning into a data science position can be daunting for many people, especially those educated before the field existed. But those with an analytic business background may already have fundamental skills in statistics, computer programming and domain knowledge needed to be an effective data scientist. Join our July meetup to find out how one executive utilized online courses, work projects, and intrapreneurship to move from a Marketing Director to becoming a Principal Data Scientist.

Phil Bangayan is Principal Data Scientist at Teradata, where he leads data science efforts for the California region. Prior to his current company, Phil held Marketing and Finance roles at NBCUniversal and The Walt Disney Company as well as engineering roles at Rockwell Scientific. Outside of work, he is a judge for the California Science and Engineering Fair, mentored startup companies through the Make in LA accelerator, and was a director on the UCLA Alumni Association Board. He holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and an MS in Electrical Engineering from UCLA.
