GPU-Accelerated Visualization: Interactive Exploratory Data Analysis at Scale

he goal of this talk is to deliver an introduction to Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) and their application to general purpose analytics. There is a great deal of excitement and hype around GPU computing, with good reason. The implications of GPU technology for machine and deep learning have already been enormous. But GPUs can do more than train neural networks - and there is a blossoming open source community to prove it. People are leveraging GPUs to make databases faster, complex geo-spatial analysis better, and to create visual analytics tools that work even with (literal) big data.

Veda, a Senior Developer Advocate at MapD, will discuss an application of GPU computing: the use of GPUs for performing super fast database operations on big data. He’ll introduce MapD, a startup based in San
Francisco that builds open source and enterprise GPU-enabled SQL database solutions. Veda will explain how MapD’s SQL engine and Immerse visualization platform were built from the ground up to harness all that GPU power.

Veda Shankar is a Senior Developer Advocate at MapD working actively to assist the user community to take advantage of MapD’s open source analytics platform. He is a customer oriented IT specialist with a unique combination of experience in product development, marketing and sales engineering. Prior to MapD, Veda worked on various open source software defined data center products at Red Hat.

After Veda's talk, we will get a demo from Benjamin Pezzillo, Founder & CEO of Pactriglo. Pactriglo is a Los Angeles-based real estate intelligence platform that provides competitive insights to developers who build apartments.
