This meetup is going to be a hands-on exercise, revisiting an earlier version we did a few years ago . We will get you started on how to solve a data science challenge. The data set that'll be used, provided by Kaggle.com, has information on the passengers and crew from the Titanic shipwreck. Although there was some element of luck involved in surviving the sinking, some groups of people were more likely to survive than others, such as women, children, and the upper-class.
In this challenge, we ask you to complete the analysis of what sorts of people were likely to survive. In particular, we ask you to apply the tools of machine learning to predict which passengers survived the tragedy.
• Binary classification
• R basics
This is a hands-on meeting so please bring your laptop (and charger)! No experience in data science or programming necessary. We'll get you started!
Free Pizza and Wi-Fi access will be provided.
The date is Tuesday May 9th, 2017. The time is the regular time: 5:30 open networking, 6:00 pm start of the exercise.
